Potential risks:
Besides grid SW Infra use for science or gaming since many years, the risk are multiple from AD tracking to hacker bot-nets for crypto mining, DDOS attacks etc. (e.g. Mirai). Also, Pegasus showed how discrete hacks can be, yet only done on small number of targets (political, industry espionage) as service.
